(ALBANY, NY) ― Final estimates of New York’s 2014 small grain crops are complete, according to Blair Smith, State Statistician, of USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, New York Field Office. Wheat production, at 5.99 million bushels, is down 23 percent from last year. Acreage for harvest is 95,000 acres, down 17 percent from the previous year. The yield is estimated at 63 bushels per acre, down 5 bushels per acre from last year. Oat production is at 2.52 million bushels, 18 percent below last year. Yield is estimated at 63 bushels per acre, down 4 bushels per acre from the previous year. Harvested area, at 40,000 acres, was down 13 percent from last year. Barley production is 376 thousand bushels, down 10 percent from last year. The yield is estimated at 47 bushels per acre, 5 bushels per acre below last year. Harvest area, at 8,000 acres, is unchanged from 2013.
