NJ CONSERVATION INNOVATION GRANTS SHOWCASE ON JAN 15

January 5, 2015

(SOMERSET, NJ) ― USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service will present the Conservation Innovation Grant (CIG) Showcase on January 15 at the Watershed Environment Center, Stony Brook Millstone Watershed Association in Hopewell, NJ. The two-hour session will start at 10 a.m. and include an overview of the CIG program, identified conservation needs, funding and grant application deadlines for 2015, as well as presentations of three projects previously funded through CIG in New Jersey. Prospective applicants are encouraged to attend to prepare for the 2015 program, expected to be announced later this year.

The Conservation Innovation Grant Program is offered as both a nationwide and a state program. It was created to stimulate the development and adoption of innovative conservation approaches and technologies. Innovations that prove to be successful may ultimately lead to the transfer of conservation technologies, management systems, and innovative approaches into NRCS policy, technical manuals, guides, and references, or to the private sector. CIG funds innovative on-the-ground conservation projects, including pilot projects and field demonstrations. Individuals, federally recognized Indian Tribes, State or local units of government, non-governmental organizations including non-profit and for-profit organizations are eligible for to submit proposals for the competitive grant program.

Project funding of up to $75,000 is available for State CIG projects. Since 2005, New Jersey NRCS has awarded more than $1 million in CIG grants to 26 projects to address soil, air, water and energy conservation. Projects that have been awarded CIG funding are listed on the NRCS New Jersey website (From the home page, open the Programs tab. From the list on the left of that page, choose Conservation Innovation Grants, the second program listed under Financial Assistance.)
