NORTHEAST CROP PRODUCTION REPORT

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) ― Northeast Highlights for corn, soybeans, and fall potatoes.

Corn
Pennsylvania corn production is forecast at 152.0 million bushels, unchanged from the October forecast but down 5 percent from 2013. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 152.0 bushels per acre, unchanged from the October forecast but 5 bushels above the 2013 average. Area harvested for grain is forecast at 1.0 million acres, unchanged from the October forecast but down 8 percent from 2013.

Maryland corn production is forecast at 74.8 million bushels, unchanged from October but up 13 percent from 2013. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 170.0 bushels per acre, unchanged from the October forecast but 12 bushels above the 2013 average. If realized, this will be the highest yield and production on record for Maryland. Area harvested for grain is forecast at 440 thousand acres, unchanged from October but up 5 percent from 2013.

Delaware corn production is forecast at 32.3 million bushels, up 9 percent from October and up 12 percent from 2013. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 190.0 bushels per acre, up 15 bushels per acre from the October forecast and 24 bushels above the 2013 average. If realized, this will be the highest yield and production on record for Delaware. Area harvested for grain is forecast at 170 thousand acres, unchanged from October forecast but down 2 percent from 2013.

New Jersey corn production is forecast at 11.3 million bushels, up 1 percent from October forecast and up 1 percent from 2013. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average a record high 150.0 bushels per acre, up 2 bushels from the October forecast and up 11 bushels above the 2013 average. Area harvested for grain is forecast at 75 thousand acres, unchanged from October but down 6 percent from 2013.

New York corn production is forecast at 102.3 million bushels, up slightly from October and up 7 percent from 2013. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average a record high 155.0 bushels per acre, up 1 bushel from the October forecast and 17 bushels above the 2013 average. Area harvested for grain is forecast at 660 thousand acres, unchanged from the October forecast and down 4 percent from 2013.

Soybeans
Pennsylvania soybean production is forecast at 30.0 million bushels, unchanged from October but up 10 percent from last year. Based on November 1 conditions, yields are expected to average 50.0 bushels per acre, unchanged from last month but up 1 bushel from last year. If realized, this will be the highest yield and production on record for Pennsylvania. Area for harvest is forecast at 600 thousand acres, unchanged from October but up 8 percent from last year.

Maryland soybean production is forecast at 22.2 million bushels, down 4 percent from October forecast but up 17 percent from last year. Based on November 1 conditions, yields are expected to average 44.0 bushels per acre, down 2 bushels from last month but up 4.5 bushels from last year. Area for harvest is at 505 thousand acres, unchanged from October but up 5 percent from last year.

Delaware soybean production is forecast at 8.78 million bushels, up 4 percent from October and up 33 percent from last year. Based on November 1 conditions, yields are expected to average a record high 48.0 bushels per acre, up 2 bushels from last month and up 7.5 bushels from last year. Area for harvest is forecast at 183 thousand acres, unchanged from October but up 12 percent from last year.

New Jersey soybean production is forecast at 4.3 million bushels, up 2 percent from October and up 24 percent from last year. Based on November 1 conditions, yields are expected to average 42.0 bushels per acre, up 1 bushel from last month and up 2.5 bushels from last year. Area for harvest is forecast at 103 thousand acres, unchanged from October but up 17 percent from last year.

New York soybean production is forecast at a record high 17.0 million bushels, down 4 percent from October but up 27 percent from last year. Based on November 1 conditions, yields are expected to average 45.0 bushels per acre, down 2 bushels from last month and down 3 bushels from last year. Area for harvest is forecast at 377 thousand acres, unchanged from October but up 36 percent from last year.

Fall Potatoes
Pennsylvania production of fall potatoes is forecast at 1.73 million cwt, down 9 percent from last year. Area harvested, at 6,300 acres, is 26 percent above the September 1 forecast but 5 percent below the 2013 estimate. The average yield forecast, at 275 cwt per acre, is down 15 cwt from last year’s yield.

New York production of fall potatoes is forecast at 4.56 million cwt, down 8 percent from last year. Area harvested, at 16,000 acres, is 3 percent below the September 1 forecast and 6 percent below the 2013 estimate. The average yield forecast, at 285 cwt per acre, is down 5 cwt from last year’s yield.

Maine production of fall potatoes is forecast at 15.4 million cwt, down 2 percent from last year. Area harvested, at 50,500 acres, is 4 percent below the September 1 forecast and 6 percent below the 2013 estimate. The average yield forecast, at 305 cwt per acre, is up 15 cwt from last year’s yield.

Massachusetts production of fall potatoes is forecast at 1.14 million cwt, up 12 percent from last year. Area harvested, at 3,800 acres, is 9 percent above the September 1 forecast but down 3 percent from the 2013 estimate. The average yield forecast, at 300 cwt per acre, is up 40 cwt from last year’s yield.

Rhode Island production of fall potatoes is forecast at 123 thousand cwt, down 5 percent from last year. Area harvested, at 500 acres, is 17 percent below the September 1 forecast but unchanged from the 2013 estimate. The average yield forecast, at 245 cwt per acre, is down 15 cwt from last year’s yield
